The Tambourine Path™ with Barbara Gail is a contemporary-ancestral way of Women’s Ritual Drumming, steeped in the Layne Redmond Tradition.

The focus is on illuminating the HERSTORY of The Ancient Women Drummers; experiencing the deeper sensibilities, wisdom and medicine of rhythm; and cultivating a feeling of connection to the 5ive Elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Ether), while learning how to play the basic strokes and rhythms of the Tambourine  — the Frame Drum that Sparkles with Jingles!

Frame drums and tambourines were predominantly played by women throughout the Ancient Mediterranean World, in processions for both ceremony and celebration.

Drumming, dancing and singing were among the primary skills of Temple Priestesses, spiritual leaders who used these Ritual Arts to harness the elements, rouse and unify community consciousness, and attain spiritual awareness for healing, divination, transformation and activation.

This was beautifully described in Layne Redmond’s seminal and transformational book, When the Drummers Were Women: a Spiritual History of Rhythm, which has been translated into several languages.

Layne also noted that as contemporary women, we’re discovering and intuitively utilizing the Ritual Arts for connection and inspiration, as we seek deeper meaning in our lives. With these sacred tools, we soften into our feminine essence, return to our woman soul, and birth an expanded sense of ourselves both individually and collectively.

Barbara was a protégé of the Late Great Layne Redmond for 20 years.

“I absorbed all your shared knowledge like a sponge. It was particularly amazing to discover what stepping / pulsing while playing the tambourine can do to your body and soul. I never felt so connected with the universe. Many thanks!” ~ Marjolein – Music Teacher and Frame Drum Student; The Netherlands

September 22nd marks the Autumnal Equinox, when the length of our days and nights are equal, and light and dark are in balance.

It’s a perfect time for us to learn how to play the Tambourine, as each of the 5ive strokes of the drum relate to one of the 5ive Elements of our world, giving us an energetic opportunity to explore how it feels to be in an elemental balance of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Ether.

The day culminates in a simple ritual, where we’ll invoke, align with, connect to, and express ourselves through the 5ive Elements and the Drum.

This beginner-friendly tambourine workshop is part seminar, part experiential learning, part sacred circle…

Part reclamation of the drum in relation to the feminine arts of Women, Rhythm, & Ritual™…

Part remembrance of our roots, The Ancient Ones, the women drummers who came before us, as they now live through us…

And part dedication to the memory, tradition and legacy of #LayneRedmondLegacy and #LaynesLegacyLives.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE TAMBOURINE:

❀ The Tambourine is a jingled frame drum and magical instrument, steeped in the feminine lineage of ritual and reverie.

❀ Thousands of ancient artifacts portray Goddesses, Priestesses and Everyday Women playing frame drums and tambourines in processions, in the temples and in the streets, in ceremonies and in celebrations.

❀ In those times, women harnessed the power of trance-inducing rhythm with drumming, singing and dancing, sacred tools for obtaining meditative states of awareness, cultivating divination, promoting purification and healing, and rousing group consciousness.

❀ Often ecstatic and oracular, and sought by Kings and Queens, their skills were offerings of service during festivals, agricultural practices, and rites of passage.
