ABOUT THE PRACTITIONERS
“Light + Grace” is a sound bath duo of Erik Peden and Pia Hernandez.
Erik is a PhD neuropharmacologist – percussionist – artist – yoga devotee and sound meditation facilitator whose work bridges ancient traditions with modern science. For nearly three decades, Erik has worked with luminaries in science, medicine, and music, including a Nobel Prize geneticist and wisdom keepers of India, the Americas and Central Africa. As a scientist, Erik supports new drug-medicine development for brain disorders. As an artist, Erik’s practice weaves these experiences into immersive sound journeys that catalyze personal transformation and deep restoration. Or, consider as sonic prescriptions for growth and peace.
For over nine years, Erik has performed his signature harmonic sound meditations at private and community venues (yoga and meditation studios, schools, cafes, performing arts centers, nursing homes, and more) across the country. Erik is an alumnus of Indiana University Religion, Spirituality, and Arts (RSA) seminar series, a program that recognizes and supports artists whose work cultivates spiritual depth and social resonance. Erik has been a staff teacher at yoga studios and serves as teacher and guide for artists and other sound practitioners. Since relocating to Florida, Erik has performed extensively throughout central Florida in spaces where health and wellness are honored and supported.
Pia is a musician- artist and upcoming graduate at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. With a double major in Religious Studies and Music, Pia is deeply entrenched in the practice and research of the intersectionality of music and spirituality. Pia has been a vocal choir performer for 12 years, and has conducted choirs and orchestras at Rollins for three years. Her recent research has looked into the science behind psychosomatic sonic healing and its cultural history in global indigenous cultures, particularly South America and in the Buddhist tradition. Pia recently presented her research about Music in Contemporary Japanese Buddhism at the 2024 American Academy of Religion Conference. As a performer and artistic visionary, Pia sees the future of music being interwoven with ancient tradition and modern technologies, overall creating a multidimensional healing experience for both listener and musician.
