BODY DIALOGUE FOUNDATION SERIES – 2

Body Dialogue: Foundations Series
A 3-Part Experiential Series

This series is best experienced as a full progression, but you are welcome to join any individual session.

This series offers a practical and experiential introduction to Body Dialogue, exploring the core principles of embodied awareness, breathing coordination, and movement. While designed as a progressive series, each session can also be taken individually.

Session 2: Reclaiming the Breath – Coordination, Not Control

Breathing is not an exercise, it is a coordination.

This session introduces Breathing Coordination as a core principle of Body Dialogue, based on the work of Carl Stough. We explore the intelligence of the respiratory system and the central role of the diaphragm.

You will learn to recognize the habit of holding the breath and begin to restore a more natural, efficient breathing pattern. Through simple, experiential practices, we will tone and support the diaphragm, soften unnecessary tension, and create more space in the body.

These Body Dialogue practices support the hydration of tissues, nervous system regulation, and a more expansive, easeful relationship to breath.

This series is best experienced as a full progression, but you are welcome to join any individual session.

About the Practitioner

Janice Stieber Rous

Janice Stieber Rous

Janice Stieber Rous has identified as a dancing philosopher since her early teens. She trained at the Martha Graham School and, by the time she graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, recognized herself as a teacher rather than a performer. When she was 19, an injury changed her life, and she began her quest for a healing modality beginning in 1969. She discovered acupuncture as well as the Alexander Technique and became a certified Alexander teacher in 1981. Continuing her journey, she found Carl Stough, the influential “master of the breath,” and became one of only five recognized teachers of Stough Breathing Coordination. Simultaneously, Janice has been a student of yoga, qigong, and tai chi and recognizes the importance of the emotional body in healing. She also studied with Marion Woodman and, in 2000, graduated from the BodySoul Rhythms training created by Woodman, Mary Hamilton, and Ann Skinner. As a result of her varied studies, Janice developed her own modality, Body Dialogue, which she continues to teach in the United States and Israel, both privately and in groups. Her associations with Opera Orlando, University of Central Florida Wellness Programs, and the Timucua Arts Foundation give her an opportunity to work in person. She also creates online courses, including “Navigating the Aging Body” and “Body Dialogue to Nourish the Nervous System,” with the Body Dialogue team.
